Style Star for February: Zoe Saldana

This month’s style star is no stranger to best-dressed lists. From her glamorous red carpet looks to her street chic style, she continuously wows us with her impeccable taste. Check out why Zoe Saldana is our February Style Star!

At the Scientific & Technical Oscar Awards in Alexander McQueen
Zoe Saldana proved that less is more in the Alexander McQueen dress she wore to host the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Science’s Scientific & Technical Awards. While many would be intimidated to wear a mid-calf-length dress, the length actually complemented Saldana’s height, making her look even more statuesque and slender than she already is. Wavy hair, peep-toe pumps and a delicate armlet completed her minimalist look.

At the Premiere of The Words in Elie Saab
Zoe Saldana glitters in gold at 'The Words' premiere in an embroidered cocktail dress by Elie Saab. I love that the dress is knee length with an open back, giving her look just the perfect balance of modesty and sexiness. Paired with a gold belt and some delicate jewelry, this complete look definitely stole the spotlight.

In a LOFT sweater in Los Angeles
You know those days where you find yourself sartorially uninspired and reaching for your coziest sweater and favorite jeans?  Zoe manages to make the old standby outfit pop by pairing a striped sweater in bright coral from LOFT with coated denim jeans and totally covetable booties.

In Lanvin at the Trevor Project’s 2012 Trevor Live Event
Zoe Saldana was picture perfect in Lanvin at Trevor Project's 2012 Trevor Live event. Every girl needs a babydoll dress in her closet and I adore how Zoe paired this flirty frock with some fierce heels and a wooden clutch. This darling ensemble certainly wins best dressed on my list.

In Michael Kors at the designer’s show for New York Fashion Week
Zoe was pretty in pink at this year’s New York Fashion Week in this long-sleeve dress by Michael Kors. The body-hugging silhouette is perfect for Zoe’s long, slender physique and gave her just the right amount of sexy! I love how she accessorized with a hot pink snakeskin clutch and black booties! Very chic!

In an Old Navy peacoat in Los Angeles
Zoe Saldana looks adorable in this bright yellow peacoat paired with a relaxed fitting khaki cargo pant. I like the overall cool, boyish look of her outfit, but also that she kept it feminine with a killer pair of wedge ankle boots.

Trendsetter on the Rise: Taylor Spreitler

As the star of ABC Family's hit TV show, Melissa & Joey, Taylor has proven to be an up-and-coming trendsetter, one to keep an eye on this year. Whether she's walking the red carpet at a premiere or making the rounds at NY Fashion Week, Taylor turns it out in looks that are as fun, fresh and fashion-forward as a page in NYLON Magazine.

At the Safe Haven Premiere
Taylor looked refreshingly chic in her floral Sparkle & Fade Blazer and Harlyn pants that at first glance look as though they are a set, but surprisingly are not! We love how perfectly she accessorized her look with a nude Lauren Merkin clutch, which added a subtle hint of texture to the overall look.

At the 2013 People’s Choice Award
Taylor shined in silver at the 39th Annual People’s Choice Awards in a backless Contrarian gown that was just the right amount of sexy and sophisticated.  Paired with her braided up-do, she was still able to keep her look fun and youthful.

At the Fall 2013 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week
Taylor looks ultra chic attending the Emerson show at this season's New York Fashion Week. Her all black ensemble with jeweled top, gives her an edgy look, while her white-button down sweater brings in a softer, more youthful vibe. Accessorizing with bright red lip color and bag give her that desired pop needed to help stand out amongst the 6ft, sky-scrapping models gracing the runway.

Staff Style Tips: February

We may be fighting off the rainy day blues, but spring is right around the corner and it could not come sooner. This means it will soon be time to whip out your warm weather clothing, hooray! With that said, it does not mean you have to box up all of your much loved winter attire! Items such as your favorite leather dress or pants can easily be incorporated in your spring wardrobe. So, in order to help you decide what to keep and what to say “Auf Wiedersehen” to, we have compiled a list of some of our favorite winter items that we think will help us all make that long-awaited transition from winter to spring!

School Spirit-- Rihanna & Elle Fanning
The days of jocks and cheerleaders holding exclusive dibs on the varsity jacket are long gone. These jackets are making the rounds all over the fashion circuit and can be thrown on with just about anything. Here, Rihanna sports a patterned, edgy look paired with jeans and chunky boots; while Elle Fanning adds a bold vintage touch to a girly, angelic white maxi dress.

Leather Me Up --Beyonce and Kim Kardashian, both in J Brand
Trading in your leggings for a pair of leather pants is a must this season while we continue “roughing it” in this cold, rainy weather and await the warm sun of spring. The great thing about leather pants is how versatile they are. You can go for a casual look by pairing your leather pants with an oversized sweater and some sneaker wedges, or you can go with a more formal look, like Beyonce and Kim Kardashian did in these J Brand leather pants paired with a blazer and some very fierce stilettos. Either way, they will definitely add a little edge to your look.

To Infinity and Beyond --Zoe Saldana
Infinity scarves are effortlessly chic and easy to wear. They can be thrown over a sweater or styled up with a blazer and heels. Zoe Saldana wore the trend perfectly pairing an infinity scarf with white skinnies and black pumps. They add a casual touch to any outfit for a California cool look.

Menswear Madness --Solange Knowles in Diane Von Furstenberg
Is there anything more fun than countering the seriousness of a tailored menswear look with a wacky print?  I think not.  And I’m totally on board!  Solange Knowles works the look at a pre-Grammy party in Los Angeles. I’m hoping I can recreate my own version of the look with this blazer I just picked up at LOFT.

Beanie, baby! --Taylor Swift
Who says beanies are just for the slopes? Whether it is slouchy or tight, or neutral or bright, beanies are a cute accessory that can go with almost anything. Taylor Swift contrasted the cozy knitwear with a fitted blazer, but you could also dress it down with a plaid shirt and sneakers. It isn’t quite springtime yet, so throw on a beanie to mix up your outfit—and keep warm—while you still can.

Luxe in Leather -- Jennifer Aniston and Blake Lively
Leather dresses are here to stay for the spring season. What I love about this trend is that you can make it as chic as you want it to be like Jennifer Aniston does in Christian Dior. Don't be afraid to add a little color! Blake Lively in Isabel Marant mixes in studded details with red leather, making her look feminine yet edgy.

LSPR's Award Season Showstoppers

Thanks to shows like The Rachel Zoe Project and It’s a Brad, Brad World, it should no longer come as a surprise that behind each awards show red carpet moment is hundreds of hours of gown schlepping, phone calls, research and sometimes good old fashioned blood, sweat and tears.  But when the right celebrity comes together with the perfect gown, hair and make-up, the moment can be magical.  As we round the corner into the final month of awards show season (hello Grammys and Oscars!), we salute several of the looks seen at the People’s Choice, Critics Choice, Golden Globes and SAG Awards that have left lasting impressions on our minds thus far.

Marion Cotillard in Dior at the SAG Awards
I thought Marion Cotillard looked très chic in her white and blue Dior gown at the SAG Awards. The voluminous skirt with the subtle hi-low hem showed off her simple yet elegant heels, and the bow added a whimsical touch. I may have a soft spot for the French actress because I loved her in La Vie en Rose, but to me, she looked perfect!

Nicole Richie in Naeem Khan at the Golden Globes
Nicole Richie looked absolutely enchanting at the 2013 Golden Globes in a floor-length lace embroidered gown by Naeem Khan. The ice blue gown was eye-catching, yet delicate; paired perfectly with matching blue eye-shadow, glamorous wavy hair, and minimal accessories. The gown fit Nicole beautifully and while the overall look was very elegant and classic, it was unique and interesting.

Zuleikha Robinson in Memeka by Gustavo Cadile at the SAG Awards
Give me some tulle and a ball gown and I’m a happy girl. Homeland actress Zuleika Robinson turned heads at the Golden Globes wearing Gustavo Cadile. Her sleek hair and simple makeup kept the look fresh and fun.

Sienna Miller in Erdem at Golden Globes
Although some may disagree, I absolutely loved Sienna Miller in Erdem at this year’s Golden Globes! Her pastel, floral skirt and top number was eye-catching and unlike anything else on the red carpet that evening. It was very fresh and fashion-forward. I have to tip my hat to her for taking a huge risk with this look, she definitely pulled it off.
 -- Danielle Janowicz, LSPR Intern

Jessica Alba in Oscar de la Renta at the Golden Globes
Jessica Alba stunned the red carpet in Oscar de la Renta at the 2013 Golden Globes. This coral gown fits her figure beautifully. I love how she matched her lipstick and clutch to the shade of the gown. The subtle pop of color definitely made her stand out amongst the usual black. Pairing a Harry Winston diamond cascading drop necklace makes her look all the more glamourous!
-- Christina Mendez, LSPR Intern

Clea DuVall in Tadashi Shoji at the Critics Choice Awards and Gomez-Gracia at SAG Awards
Argo was one of my favorite films this year and I always love someone new to watch on the carpet, so I was excited to see what the film’s two female stars would wear.  Clea has consistently stepped out in fresh, unique looks for her red carpet appearances this awards season.  Both the Tadashi Shoji and Gomez-Gracia gowns she wore for these big red carpets struck the perfect balance between feminine, yet edgy that seems well suited to her personality.  Hope we get to see more red carpet moments from her in the future.
